FURY 1

Fury MMA hit the Events Centre in Caloundra on Friday the 5th November, and played host to ten exciting fights, including the Main Event featuring the promoter, Ryan Dunstan, himself!

Two Advance Brisbane fighters competed on this card with Ricky Marshall making his Mixed Martial Arts debut and Brendan ‘War Machine’ O’Reilly looking to add another win to his unblemished record. Ricky came out strong, with a massive left hook that dropped his opponent followed by a HUGE take-down that shook the arena to its foundations. Ricky then controlled his opponent on the ground, before the fight was halted due to strikes.

Later in the night, the War Machine took centre-stage against Sam Bastin; an excellent striker from Port Macquarie. Brendan immediately secured a take-down, with a slick single-leg to double-leg transition, passed guard and secured side-control. There he worked for an “Americana” which appeared to be tight, but let it go in favour of position. Brendan pinned his opponent’s arms to the mat and began striking his opponent’s unguarded head. After Bastin could not escape, the referee called a halt to the bout. All in all it was a fantastic showing for the Advance team!

Also, a huge congratulations to the Advance Caloundra fighters who also competed; with young-guns Callum Lewis and Grant Blackler scoring TKOs in rounds 1 and 2 respectively (Callum’s came just 20 seconds into the first round), Floyd Barber with a round 2 TKO, Shane Wescombe’s fight declared a majority draw and Todd Sparreboom suffering a round 2 TKO courtesy of a tough opponent.

In the Main Event of the evening, Ryan Dunstan took on Lewis Rigney from New Zealand. The fight opened with Dunstan delivering some sharp kicks to Rigney, before a failed take-down by Rigney ended with Dunstan in top position, where he used his feared Jiu-Jitsu to pass guard, secure mount and rain down strikes until the fight was called.

Congratulations to everyone who competed at Fury! Win, lose or draw.
