On Friday, October 22nd, the Advance boxing team made the short journey to the Mansfield Tavern for a night of boxing for charity.
Fighting out of the Advance corner was Jacqueline House, Reuben Aiono and Mike Bell, all of who were making their debut in the Queensberry Rules format. Reuben (a former professional rugby player) was first on the card and displayed his superior conditioning (and his killer overhand right) with a majority decision.
Next up was Jacqueline "The Jackhammer" House. Jacqui had a difficult mission in front of her as her opponent was a seasoned martial artist and also had a weight advantage... all to no avail as Jacqui's straight punches made the most impact in a hard fought affair.
Last but definitely not least was Mike Bell who took the bout on one day's notice after sustaining a back injury and also stepped up 10Kgs. Mike showed a great display of boxing against a hard hitting and hard-headed opponent. Unfortunately Mike got a bad decision, but showed enormous heart and skill in probably the fight of the night.
Well done to all three boxers and thanks to the supporters and trainers from Coorparoo Advance!
Last of all Jarrett Owen will be having his first bout this weekend at Caboolture and will be joined by Reuben "The Rage" Aiono in a quick follow-up to last week's bout.

The Novice Titles were held at the Acacia Ridge Hotel on Saturday and Sunday the 7th and 8th of May, where both Marcel and Liam boxed.
Marcel lost a decision, but came home strong forcing an 8 count on his tiring opponent in the final round. Liam won his bout in a great display of courage. Behind on points and after breaking his right hand in the second round, Liam dug deep and produced a big effort, scoring enough points in the third round to take the bout. Unfortunately, though, with his broken hand Liam was unable to compete in the finals on Sunday.
Nonetheless, everyone is happy with the efforts displayed and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and are now looking forward to the next tournament.

Advance Boxing was busy again last weekend with Bernie competing at a club tournament on the Gold Coast hosted by Matrix Boxing.
Bernie competed in the 91+kg division and won his bout against a bigger, more experienced opponent. The first round saw Bernie struggling with his opponent's reach advantage, who boxed well off of the back foot, making it hard for Bernie to close the distance. The second round was a bit better for Bernie who pushed the pace a bit more and was beginning to find his range. Nevertheless, going into the third round, we thought Bernie was still behind on points and we knew we needed a massive effort from the big guy if we wanted to take the decision. Bernie did not disappoint and lifted his game to a new level, bustling his now tiring opponent around the ring and landing some very telling shots, forcing a standing 8 count. We were very proud of his third round effort.
Congrats to Bernie for showing great heart and tenacity.
