Class info

As vitally important as great instruction is to your progress, it’s also heavily influenced by the people you train with – your fellow students.

Our students at Advance have an incredible breadth and depth of experience in the martial arts, and come from all walks of life. Like our instructors, you’ll find them to be most welcoming and friendly, always ready to offer helpful advice and answer any questions, and will also show you the utmost care and courtesy.

In addition to all of the great training, we regularly hold social activities and outings for our members.

Our Classes follow one simple rule: we teach only what works in the real world.

What we practice and teach is based on the realities of the world around us; logic, science, and practical experience. We aim to, like Bruce Lee famously said…

The Advance Martial Arts class program draws on a range of arts and influences that follow the above philosophy. Our primary goal in training is to promote development of technical ability and understanding in a well rounded set of real world self-defence skills. A by-product of our training is fantastic new level in all aspects of your health and fitness!

Our fulltime centre boasts an incredible array of training times for people with busy lives – The Advance schedule has classes 7 DAYS A WEEK, daytimes, afternoons, evenings…

Beginners

Learn how to do things the right way, right-away!

The beginner’s class is suitable for all experience levels. Whether you’ve done some training in other martial arts before, or haven’t yet done a day in your life. Beginners classes aim to give you basic skill level and outstanding fitness.

The classes are divided into two groups with one learning the fundamentals of Kickboxing and the other those of grappling. Brazilian Jiujitsu and elements of Wrestling comprise the beginners grappling classes. You make the choice.

Beginners Class Times – Monday & Wednesday, 6-7pm

Brazilian Jiujitsu

Brazilian Jiujitsu or BJJ is a highly practical system of grappling that’s based on the simple fact that the vast majority or real world altercations end up on the ground.

Unlike other styles, BJJ is geared towards placing your opponent in finishing holds (submission) (chokes and joint locks) rather than pinning or holding. BJJ practitioners are able to use their technical skill and application of good leverage to beat a significantly larger and stronger opponent. In this case, knowledge really is power!

The Advance training mat boasts the greatest depth of coloured belts, and the longest running experience of any BJJ school in Queensland.

BJJ Class Times

– Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 8-9pm
- Thursday 3-4pm

Brazilian Jiujitsu – Advance BJJ Ranks

Kickboxing

Advance Kickboxing Classes combine techniques from Boxing and Muay Thai (thai kickboxing) in a way that will have you both super fit and packing a punch… plus kicks, elbows, and knee’s!

We’ll teach you how to use your hands, feet, elbows and knees as striking weapons and more importantly how to defend yourself.

All of this is done through engaging and challenging solo and partner drills that will see you using all kinds of bags, pads, and other special training equipment. Train like professional fighters do in a safe, fun and friendly environment.

At the very same time prepare to also see your cardiovascular fitness, strength, speed, endurance, and flexibility all go through the roof. We’ll take you as far as you want to go…fitter than you’ve ever been before.

Kickboxing Class Times

– Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 7-8pm
- Thursday 2-4pm

Kickboxing – Advance Kickboxing Ranks

 

Wrestling

Advance Wrestling Classes combine the Olympic sports of Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling. In our classes you’ll learn all of the throws and takedowns of these dynamic arts.

With wrestling skills you’ll be able to put your opponent right where you want them – down on the ground while you stand safely on your feet.

We employ the same training methods that are used in elite wrestling schools worldwide. The kind of conditioning that will develop explosive strength, fitness and work out muscles you thought never existed!

Wrestling Class Times – Tuesday & Thursday, 7-8pm
- Tuesday 2-3pm
- Sunday 11am-12pm

Mixed Martial Arts

Be a complete Martial Artist, a Mixed Martial Artist.

To defend yourself effectively you need to be skilled in all aspects of fighting; striking and grappling, standing and on the ground. Mixed Martial Arts or MMA teaches all of these things. What gives the term meaning though is what component parts go into its make-up.

In Advance MMA we combine the best techniques from a variety of different martial arts to form the most effective self defence system possible. You’ll learn practical techniques that will work for you in a self-defence scenario. The predominate components of our MMA classes are actually the three previously described styles and class types – Kickboxing, Wrestling, and BJJ

- Kickboxing skills for striking and defence against strikes on our feet
- Wrestling to take our opponent down or defend their takedowns
- BJJ to finish the fight on the ground or defend against strikes there

We use the most fundamental and highly effective techniques of these three styles in our MMA training. Whilst those separate classes have more scope to go into greater depth in parts, putting them all together is an art unto itself…

If you want all round martial arts skills to defend yourself at each of these different ranges we highly recommend you train in as many of the other classes as you can…then bring it all together with MMA!

MMA Class Times – Tuesday & Thursday, 8-9pm
- Tuesday 3-4pm
- Saturday 11am-12pm

Womens Classes

Advance Womens Classes provide a welcome environment for women and girls to learn self defence techniques and principles. As well as providing the added benefits of fitness training and development of self confidence.

Womens Class Times – Tuesday & Thursday, 6-7pm

 

Kids & Teens Classes

Advance Kids and Teens Classes are a great way to get your children involved in martial arts and will give them all of the many benefits that our expert training brings.

We have two separate and differently structured classes to provide the greatest possible development and engagement for children of different ages –

- Kids - roughly primary school ages, 6-12
- Teens - roughly high school ages, 12 and up

Our aim is not just to give your children the most practical self-defence skills available and to improve their general health and fitness, but also to help instil in them the discipline, respect, self-confidence, and sense of satisfaction in learning they need to succeed in life.

Kids Class Times – Tuesday & Thursday, 5-6pm
Teens Class Times – Monday & Wednesday, 5-6pm

 

Open Mat Training

Open Mat Training times are available for all of our adult students of BJJ, Kickboxing, Wrestling, MMA and Womens Classes. Unlike the regularly scheduled formal classes conducted in these styles, our open mat times offer students an opportunity at a more self-directed approach.

In these sessions, you can come and go as you please, decide what you want to practice, and who you’d like to train with. Take charge of your development!

Whilst these aren’t formal classes our qualified instructors and senior students are still always present to ensure the safety of students, and to offer advice and help with training.

Open Mat Times – Saturday & Sunday, 12-3pm

 

Private Lessons

Private Lessons with our experienced instructors are a fantastic way to greatly accelerate your understanding and skill development.

This kind of training allows us even more so to cater to your individual needs. Whether it’s that our regular class times don’t suit your current schedule, or there’s something specific that you’d like to learn, or maybe you’re the kind of person that benefits more from one on one teaching…we’ll move you ahead in leaps and bounds.
