BJJ is about controlling your opponent to a point that you can set up a submission when applied will earn a ‘tap’ from your opponent that acknowledges that you have overcomes your opponents defences; so know you will be moving around on the mats learning foundation techniques right from your first class!
After the first 3 months of attending the Beginner Classes you will be presented with your first ‘Stripe’ for your White Belt, which is your ticket to the BJJ Advanced Classes. The beginner classes focus on the core movements required for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and developing your understanding of the core positions, defenses, escapes, and submissions that create your foundation moving forward.
Classes start with a short warm up of basic movements and some calisthenics to get your body moving and ready, a number of drills, some focused techniques which are drilled in groups of pairs, and focused wrestling or ‘rolling’ rounds to put what you’ve learnt into practice!
BJJ Beginner Classes are held 3 days a week:
- Monday Evening
- Wednesday Evening
- Friday Evening before the BJJ Open Mat
What you need to bring:
- Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting sweaty in (the BJJ uniform, a ‘Gi’, is not needed until attending the Advanced classes – and Gis are available for purchase at the gym)
- A towel
- A waterbottle
- A mind ready to learn
Our full-time training and fitness centre boasts an incredible array of training times for people with busy lives, wanting to mix and match their work outs to suit their schedule. Classes run 6 days a week, during the early mornings, daytimes, afternoons, and evenings.
