Warren started training in a traditional form of Karate, Okinawan Goju Ryu, in 1984 in his home town of Nelson Bay, NSW. He was awarded his Black Belt in 1992 by Sensai Morio Higaonna and his 2nd Dan in 1996 by Sensai Peter Obererkar. Throughout this time he trained with his life long Karate instructor Sensai Tino Rossi 5th Dan. It was Sensai Rossi that first introduced him to BJJ after attending a number of John Will’s seminars in the mid to late nineties.
Warren first started formal Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1998 when he first trained at Mansfield with Ken Dunstan. After a break of a couple of years, he recommenced training with Ken at Holland Park in 2002, where he trained until Ken’s departure in 2006. He was graded to Blue Belt in BJJ in 2006 by Ken just prior to transferring to Advance Martial Arts at West End to train with Matt Cooper. Warren was graded to a very well-deserved and earned BJJ Black Belt in 2013.
He has competed in many martial arts events and activities over the last 20 years, and is the 2010 Asia Pacific Will-Machado 82-88kg Masters Purple Belt Champion, and the 2011 Asia Pacific Will-Machado 82-88kg Masters Brown Belt Champion.
Warren can be found on the mat on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings.
